Progress Report
Tomorrow will be a week since I started reading “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” and I am not done with the first book yet (very close though). Let’s see how I fare reading over 600 pages in a night. So far I am enjoying it very much, but I confess, I’ve been distracted by other things. I am a busy person!! Read more…
I wonder
I wonder if all Americans get the very subtle jokes sprinkled all throughout the first chapters of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Like the joke about Arsenal, or the references to the pubs. Mr. Adams’s humor is very subtle in some parts and blatantly obvious in others. I have to admit that I get distracted by the made up names, so much as to find them a little annoying. Maybe I don’t have such a huge imagination, but I far prefer it when he gets to telling the story and stops making up silly names with obscure references. I read the full version as a young adult, and it even influenced which branch of the service I joined (the mighty US Navy). My obsession with the sea, boats, sailors and solitude is all thanks to Mr. Melville and his riveting whaling saga. Read more…
